Prayers to share
Being the disciple that you want

Dear Lord,
I thank you for all the love and care you have for me.
Above all, I thank you because you have called me to be your witness.
Lord, I hope I can do all that you want, and do it for you and for everyone.
Whatever happens in my life, you never abandon me.
Thank you, Lord, thank you.
I will try to change what’s bad about my life, to become your true disciple.
I also ask forgiveness for the sins I commit every day.
Don’t get weary of us and of all who are sinners.  Forgive, Lord, forgive.
May I never forget you, Lord, not today, not tomorrow, never.
That’s my promise, Lord.
Thank you for your unceasing love and understanding.
Thank you, for being my God, the God of us all.
(Prayer of a young person from the Laura neighborhood in Quezon City, Manila)

God of freedom

I seek you and I see nothing;
I forget and you take me by the hand,
You, God who is true.
I call you when I don’t know what to do.
I praise you for my joys.
I forget you in my struggles.
I reject you in days of rage.
Still, God of freedom,
you are always close to me;
You, O God of friendship.

(Clotile’s prayer; Nimes, France

I accept, Lord

Lord, you call me to help you
to redeem this world;
you invite me to follow you.
Who am I that you should call me to your side?
I’m a sinner.
There are many others better than me,
others who love you more than I.
I accept, Lord.
I want to participate with you
in redeeming this world,
and with you I want to do the Father’s will.
May your glory be made known
that your Kingdom might come,
that all of us might be brothers,
that there might be no more wars,
nor hate, nor anything that opposes that peace
which you give to all.
Hold me tightly, tie my heart and feelings to you,
so that I find peace in you only
and never abandon you.

(Prayer of Rodolfo Sánchez, fc, Cuba)

Help me, Lord,

Help me, Lord,
to know how to hope without giving up,
to know how to listen without getting tired,
to welcome kindly,
to give love,
to always be there
when someone needs me.
Help me to be that sure presence
to which others can always come.
Help me offer that friendship that calms,
that enriches, through and in you.
Help me transmit a joyful peace,
your peace in my soul, Lord.
Help me to be totally centered on you
and also available and welcoming toward others.
May the thought of you never leave me,
so I can remain in your truth always
and not fail your Commandment.
And so, without doing anything extraordinary, without vanity,
perhaps I can help others feel your nearness,
because my soul opens its door to you
at every moment.

(Prayer of André Devos, fc,. France)

Prayer for a group

Lord Jesus, we are here
seeking you together.
We are here with free hearts.
We are here together, Lord,
as friends. Together.
Give us the strength of walking together.
Give us the joy of knowing we are united.
Give us the joy of the brother or sister at our side.
Give us the peace of those who seek together in a group.
We are making our way to you;
Tired, we go up your mountain.
We know the ascent is hard,
but the group sustains us.
We know you are up there.
We know it’s worth the climb up
to find you.

(Prayer of a group of young people in Madrid, Spain)

Touch me, Mother

Virgin of Charity,
you knew how to thank the Father
for all he gave to you.
Yes, you knew how to be his servant.
You are my Mother,
the one who watches over my steps
and walks always looking out for me.
All you ask of your Son, He grants you,
so teach me to live in God,
as you lived;
teach me to live in this world
singing always the Magnificat
of the wonders that God has created in mi.
You are the most beautiful work of God
among humans;
you are the one who knew how to live as a poor person
the great richness of the love
that the Lord placed in you.
You were humble; teach me, touch me Mother,
with all the good that you felt toward God.
Make me feel to the bottom of my heart
all the warmth of your love.
